IMPORTANT DETAILS ABOUT YOUR DFN VOIP SERVICES & BATTERY BACKUP
DFN values you as our customer, and we strive to provide outstanding service. The
important details below outline your DFN Voice (VOIP) Services and Battery Backup
requirements. If you have any questions, please give us a call at (541) 673-4242 or visit
us online at dfn.net.
Your DFN Phones Won’t Work Without Power
The DFN Voice Service in your home uses a device called an Optical Network Terminal
(ONT) to deliver broadband and phone calls to your house. This service requires
electrical power and will not work during an electrical outage unless you have a backup
power source, such as an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS).
What This Means for You
If you lose power to your ONT, you will not be able to make or receive calls, including
911 calls, unless a backup power solution is available. Additionally, cordless telephones
and other equipment connected to the telephone line that require electricity to operate,
will not work.
You Have Options
A UPS is designed to provide backup power to your ONT, giving you the ability to place
calls, including 911 and other emergency calls. In the event of a power outage, a
properly sized UPS should provide up to 24 hours of standby time and approximately
five hours of talk time.
At DFN, we recommend a UPS that can deliver at least 1,500 VA (volts-amperes). You
can find a wide range of options at most office supply stores and Amazon starting at
$150. Call us at (541) 673-4242 if you need any help deciding on the right battery for your
home.
Important
Please consult the battery manufacturer for charging, storage, and warranty information.
Any personal backup battery will need to be recharged when power is re-established. If
your location previously had DFN Voice Service with a backup battery, you are still
responsible for battery monitoring and replacement of the battery if necessary.
